Curtain raiser for Golden Jubilee Celebrations

The year-long golden jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Forest Research Institute at Peachey began on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 10:00 am in the auditorium of Forest Research Institute. Hon. Minister of Revenue and Housing, Adv. K. Rajan, performed the inauguration by releasing the Golden Jubilee logo. The Principal Secretary of the Science and Technology Department and Executive Vice President of Kerala Science and Technology Environment Council, Prof. KP Sudhir, presided. Director of Forest Research Institute Dr. Kannan CS Warrier welcomed the institution by recalling its inception and various milestones of its growth. Forest and Wildlife Department representative, CCF Mr. Adalarasan I. FS, participated in the function and delivered a speech.
In his inaugural address, the Honorable Minister of Revenue and Housing, Adv. K. Rajan, emphasized that Shri Achyuthamenon's vision led to the establishment of KFRI. Shri Achyuthamenon initiated the establishment of around ten research and development institutes to contribute to scientific research and technological development in Kerala. They highlighted that this initiative played a crucial role in shaping modern Kerala. He remembered that KFRI plays a unique role in improving the accessibility of forest-related biological resources and environmental protection, exceeding that of any other government institution in Kerala. As Kerala transitions to a knowledge-based economy, with a focus on climate change and ecological restoration, the forest research institute shoulders the responsibility of promoting sustainable development and increasing scientific awareness.
As part of the year-long Golden Jubilee celebrations, various programs have been organized, including seminars, lectures by experts in forest science research, scientific exhibitions, and scientific conferences. Dr. CTS Nair, former Director of KFRI, former Economist at the Food and Agriculture Division of the United Nations, and Prof. B. Mohankumar, Assistant Director General at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and former Vice Chancellor of Arunachal University of Studies delivered lectures as part of the Golden Jubilee Science Lecture Series. Dr. A.V. Raghu, the Principal Scientist and Convener of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee, expressed his gratitude to everyone involved.
