Monday, March 24, 2025

The Department of Wildlife Biology, KSCSTE-KFRI, hosted the 3rd Annual Workshop on Advanced Techniques in Bat Classification, Field Research, and Conservation at its Peechi campus. Organized in collaboration with the Conservation Leadership Program and Bat Conservation International, the three-day workshop brought together 25 participants from across India, reflecting the growing national interest in bat ecology and conservation.
This recurring workshop series highlights the urgent need to strengthen research capacity to address key conservation challenges—such as roosting habitat loss and the emergence of zoonotic diseases like Nipah virus, which have serious implications for both biodiversity and public health.
We extend our sincere thanks to the expert resource persons who contributed to the success of the workshop: Dr. Pipat Soisook (Prince of Songkla University), Dr. Isabelle Mandl (Bat Conservation International), Dr. Rohit Chakravarty (Nature Conservation Foundation), Dr. Baheerathan Murugavel (IISER Mohali), Sreehari Raman (KAU & KFRI), Mahalkshmi C (KAU), Nithin Divakar, and Dr. P. Balakrishnan (KFRI).
