The KSCSTE-Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) successfully conducted a three-day hands-on training programme on DNA Barcoding and Data Analysis from April 30 to May 2, 2025, at its headquarters in Peechi. The programme was organized by the Centre for DNA Barcoding and Timber Forensics, under the Division of Forest Genetics and Biotechnology.

Aimed at early-stage PhD scholars involved in biodiversity and conservation research, the training focused on building technical expertise and analytical proficiency in DNA barcoding techniques—an essential tool in modern taxonomic and conservation studies.

Participants engaged in intensive laboratory sessions, practical demonstrations, and interactive discussions led by experienced scientists and technical experts from KFRI. Topics covered included sample preparation, DNA extraction, PCR amplification, sequencing, and the use of bioinformatics tools for data analysis.

"The training was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in the field of molecular taxonomy and conservation biology," said Dr. [Insert Name], Head of the Division of Forest Genetics and Biotechnology.

The initiative reflects KFRI’s ongoing commitment to advancing forest research and fostering capacity building among young researchers in the region.
