KFRI Golden Jubilee Celebrations

The Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), Peechi, in collaboration with the Regional Cum Facilitation Centre (Southern Region) of the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), celebrated World Environment Day 2025 with a vibrant and inspiring programme on June 5. The event brought together scientists, conservationists, local leaders, and students to raise awareness about environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

The highlight of the afternoon session, held from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Main Auditorium, was the Focal Theme Talk and the release of a specially composed theme song by KFRI Director Dr. Kannan C.S. Warrier.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. R. Adalarasan IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Central Circle, who also officially released the theme song. Dr. Kannan C.S. Warrier delivered the Presidential Address, emphasizing the urgent need for environmental stewardship.

Renowned conservation biologist and KFRI alumnus Dr. C.P. Shaji delivered the Focal Theme Talk, captivating the audience with insights on biodiversity conservation and community engagement.

The theme song "Onnucheram Onnaipadam Kathidam" was unveiled at this event. The song, composed to raise awareness about environmental conservation, features music by Dr. Kannan C.S. Warrier, Director of KFRI, and lyrics by Priya Karanavar from Raja Kesavadas NSS Higher Secondary School, Sasthamangalam, Thiruvananthapuram. The song became a key highlight of the event.

Felicitations were offered by Sri. P.P. Ravindran (President, Pananchery Grama Panchayat), Smt. Reshma Sajeesh (Panchayat Member), Dr. S. Sandeep (Registrar, KFRI), and Dr. K.A. Sreejith (Golden Jubilee Committee).

The session began with a welcome address by Dr. P. Sujanapal (Coordinator, RCFC) and concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Dr. P. Balakrishnan (Chairman, Seminar Committee).

Adding colour and energy to the event was the enthusiastic participation of a large number of school students, making the celebration both impactful and educational. The event successfully reinforced the message of environmental responsibility among all attendees.
