The Bamboo Processing Centre (BPC) was established

The Bamboo Processing Centre (BPC) was established at FRC, Velupadam of KFRI with the support of the National Bamboo Mission. The BPC is functioning as a means of reviving the bamboo sector by demonstrating the benefits of mechanical processing of bamboo to artisans and innovative farmers and industrial entrepreneurs producing value-added products for livelihood and enterprise development.

Launched the soil museum with a collection of 20 Soil monoliths

Launched the soil museum with a collection of 20 Soil monoliths depicting the variation in morphological properties of soil beneath different forest ecosystems like evergreen forests, Shola forests, grasslands, dry deciduous forests, scrub forests, degraded forests. The forest soil museum is the first of its kind in India and provides valuable information on soil genesis and transformation in the humid tropics.

For effective coordination of National Medicinal Plant Board programmes in the Southern States of India, the Regional cum Facilitation Centre-Southern Region (NMPB-RCFC Southern Region) started functioning at KFRI Peechi. The NMPB-RCFC (Southern Region) shall be a one-stop shop for all matters related to the medicinal plants sector in the southern region covering States of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Karnataka and Union Territories of Lakshadweep, Pondicherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
